The goal of this short term course is not only to generate new skilled human resources ready for employment in the industry and academia but also re-skilling / up- skilling of the existing manpower and improving their entrepreneurial potential for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries involved in preclinical research and also working with pathogenic infectious agents requiring specialized training as well as infrastructure to work. The proposed workshop will provide specialized training to individuals and staff working with animals and infectious agents in Animal facilities, Biosafety Level-3 and Animal Biosafety Level-3 (BSL/ABSL-3) labs. The training will provide the candidates the most sought after and unique skills desired by the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industries.
This comprehensive workshop will provide the candidates unique skills in animal handling as well as give exposure to trainees about basic principles of working with dangerous pathogenic organisms in Biosafety labs. The training will have remarkable impact in generating highly-trained workforce, with great scope of employment in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industries working in Vaccine development and Drug Discovery labs.
Course curriculum of training will cover areas of Basics of biology and husbandry practices of laboratory animals, Regulatory guidelines of CPCSEA/IAEC, Record keeping, Animal Welfare, Breeding of laboratory animals, Environmental enrichment, Animal feed and nutritional requirement, Experimental techniques viz. handling, sexing, injections/immunization, blood collection, anaesthesia, euthanasia etc., Surgical techniques, pre and post-operative care, Biosafety and occupational hazards, Diseases of laboratory animals, Genetic and health monitoring of animals etc., Biostatistics in animal research, animal model of different diseases, basic lab safety procedures, Regulatory guidelines of DBT/BMBL/CDC/WHO/NIH fundamentals of working safely with infectious agents in biosafety level labs-II/III labs, donning and doffing PPE, risk assessment and mitigation, biosecurity etc.
